If you’re not down their on Wednesday at the times stated, i will be very surprised if you get a ticket. If you land in Ibiza on Thursday or Friday, then again, i would be surprised if there were any tickets left. The demand to be at Radio 1 events is remarkable and every man and his dog will be trying to get tickets!

If you do get tickets then a free bus will be put on for you.

Radio 1 weekend Tickets

Today they will be taking over at the Ushuaia hotel in Playa Den Bossa. If you haven’t heard of this yet then i believe you may have been hiding under a rock!!

Ushuaia is a new hotel that has been taken over by the team of people responsible for the Ushuaia beach bar which had some amazing parties before the police put an end to them early last year.

So far this season, they have Luciano doing a weekly party as well as Defected and SupermarteX.

Today see’s the opening party for the Swedish House Mafia who roll into the hotel with Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso. Now generally, i tend to prefer Size Matters nights over Swedish House Mafia nights, either way, you get to see these guys without being crammed in a very hot and stuffy club!

The event starts at 5pm and runs till midnight. Tickets cost €40 but if you get them from Ibiza Spotlight in advance they are €25 and there in lies the issue i have with Ushuaia at the moment. I’ve seen all the video’s and pictures and it does look good, however lots of people have said it doesn’t get going till around 9pm which means you are paying a lot of money and waiting a long time for people to get into it. For €40 you can get into most clubs in Ibiza and party till 8am!

Anyway, if i was going to see the Swedish House Mafia in Ibiza, i would choose Ushuaia over Pacha. I’ve never seen the Swedish House Mafia in either but the open air would always win my vote

Radio 1 weekend can generally be looked at as the busiest weekend of the year in Ibiza, mainly because it is the height of the season, but also because Radio 1 rolls onto the island.

Over the last few years i feel radio 1 have taken their foot of the gas a little when it comes to the live broadcasts from the island. In 2009 and 2010 the live show came on a Friday only with other shows pre recorded.  This is mainly down to the Radio 1 schedule having all their dance music in one big slot on a Friday, however id like to hear more live broadcasts this year like they used to when they broadcast live for over 30 hours over 3 days!!

In 2011 Radio 1 weekend has been confirmed for the weekend of Friday 5th August. This year Radio 1 will not be live from Ibiza Rocks hotel which personally is a good thing as it had a massive chance of being the same as the last two years.

The info has changed slightly since i last updated this post, now Radio 1 will be hosting a couple of Events In Ushuaia. Initially it was reported the party starting in Space at 7pm but this is no longer the case as Space is now not part of the Radio 1 party, though they will be broadcasting the Essential Mix from there. Unsurprisingly for people who have been following Ibiza this year, Ushuaia will be getting in on the Action. Using Ushuaia gives the weekend a different look, Its in Playa Den Bossa which will make a change and though the format may be similar to Ibiza Rocks hotel i think it will have a completely different and fresh feel to it.

Annie Mac will start the weekend form Ushuaia with her radio show followed by Pete Tong with his. Ushuaia has made a big splash this year and they are hosting a lot of good parties. They have had Usha play (love it or hate it) and word is they have another big surprise name later this year.

Radio 1 parties there will be really good, although I’ve not been in the hotel myself, i have been to Ushuaia parties and I’ve never been disappointed.  The only issue i can see with using Ushuaia is people having to choose! The Ushuaia party will be free but if you choose to go to Ushuaia, i would be surprised if you get into space after for the main event.

After Ushuaia a special 6 hour Essential mix will be broadcast from over the road in Space.

Radio 1 Weekend – Ibiza 2011

I didn’t get to the night myself but i did go to the Ushuaia opening party that had the Cadenza boys playing, the amount of people who crammed the beach last night was crazy and probably why the party got stopped a couple of weeks later!!

I really expect Cadenza to play a large part of the 2011 season, id like to see a more organised pre party for people to go to (one that’s going to stay open) because when it was on, it was on!!

Cadenza in 2011 will throw one of the first parties in Ibiza, Cadenza will take over Pacha for the Cadenza showcase night which will start from 12 midnight in Pacha in Ibiza town.

Then, last year Luchiano started playing in a nice beach bar in PDB named Ushuaia. It’s not a place i went to visit last year but over the close season it was a night that was spoken about a lot. This year i was lucky enough to be at the Ushuaia opening this year and WOW, what a party. Luchiano and Reeboot played the opening and they continued with the Sunday parties using them as a pre party for their Cadenza night at Pacha.

Now, news is coming through that the party is over for Luchiano and Ushuaia.

The beginning of this season has been a great one in terms of peoples outlooks for the summer, Ushuaia was part of the reason, a lot of people have been looking forward to getting over there this season and the vibe over there has been really good.

There is no exact news on why the club has been closed down but the Ibiza Rumour mill has been in full force and here are some of the reasons.

Pacha – Pacha has been blamed because people are going to the pre party and not the club night, if this was true, would it not also be hitting Luchiano in the pocket as Cadenza is his night? (please let me know if im wrong there).

Space - Space has been blamed for a similar reason, they have had it shut down because it is taking numbers away from their Sunday parties and with We Love coming up they have shut it down before it’s a problem!

Authorities - The Authorities have also been blamed as now they have requested to see Ushuaia’s licence which they couldn’t produce

I love the ideas people come up with, it’s always about corruption, back handers and a story of them against us (authorities V The Parties).

I don’t believe that it’s the other clubs making this happen. At the end of the day, Ushuaia is simply a popular pre party. Pre parties have always been a feature of Ibiza. Pre parties have been extremely popular in the past, it’s never really stopped people going to the club though, Luciano has a god like following, if he is playing in Pacha, people will go.

In reality it is probably a lot less boring. Its been a few years now since the licensing clamp down hit the headlines of clubland, bars and parties all over the place shut down, its driven some places into history and the place of old wives tales, anyone remember Kanya??!!

The most sensible idea is that of the authorities. This year the opening was rammed, Ushuaia was full to overflowing, the beach was full all the way down to the sea, the sand dunes were packed with people dancing, im not good with numbers but if someone told me 1000 people were in and around the bar dancing i would be happy to believe it.

I would be really annoyed if its been shut down because they don’t have a licence. I don’t think anyone would try to run a beach bar throwing parties these days without a licence. It is more believeable though that the party got to big for the licence Ushuaia held. They may have a licence but does it cover that many people in and around the bar?

I’m sure this story is going to rumble on for a while yet, There are lots of people going over this year that are gutted this has happened, im sure Ushuaia will fight it as it’s a night that filled their tills. I hope the solution isn’t like those hideous tarpaulin walls Bora Bora has to put up every night.

I would look out for a Ushuaia closing party and the word from Cadenza is keep your ear out for were the next party is!

Luchiano @ Ushuaia – CANCELLED

However it looks like a great place and i will definitely be looking at taking a visit this year.

Ushuaïa is a beach club in Playa Den Bossa, Located on the beach almost opposite space at the bottom end of the beach, it only has a capacity of  300 so it will be a very snug atmosphere but reading up on various websites it sounds like it is a really good place to be.

In 2009 luciano played there and on the 29th May 2010 he is playing the Ushuaïa Beach Club opening party.
