Sankeys Ibiza Opening 2013

Posted by Gary on Tuesday 30 April 2013

A name that is being spoken about more and more in and around Ibiza. In 2013 the owners expect big things, as i blogged about recently, they are closing the Manchester club this weekend to concentrate on Ibiza and making the Ibiza club as popular as the UK club.

Based in Playa Den Bossa, Sankeys is a smaller club compared to the ‘super clubs’ but from everything ive heard about it, it’s a great little club. 2012 had some massive nights. Solomun was a stand out night as mentioned by Macloon in his interview. In 2013 Steve Lawler will be returning for another massive residency.

Sankeys Ibiza will be opening in 2013 on Thursday May 23rd which is the end of the Music week and the same weekend as the Space & DC 10 openings.

The opening party however, is set over Thursday and Friday with a great range of Dj’s on offer. If you’re heading out there for the opening weekend or at any point this summer, then make sure you check out Sankeys.

Thursday Opening Party Lineup  23rd May:

Steve Lawler

Ibiza Blog Sessions – Macaloon – One Night In Bossa

Posted by Gary on Monday 15 April 2013

A lot has been said recently about Pacha and its moves away from pandering to the ‘Superstar Dj’ and i personally back them 100%. Today we continue to celebrate real music from Dj’s who don’t need 100K to open their laptop.

Today we speak to Andrew, i picked up on Andrews music through listening to a mix he posted on twitter and subsequently went through his mixcloud. Andrew has kindly done a mix for us and i managed to ask him a few questions.

Hi Andrew and thanks for taking the time to talk to me, and especially putting a mix together for the blog.

Firstly a bit about yourself, who are your musical inspirations when it comes to what you listen to? Is it a Dj, or maybe even a venue?

I’ve been into electronic music since around 97, from listening to the early Ministry of Sound ‘The Annual’ compilations and it all kind of went from there. I’m a big fan of DJs and live acts who have their own sound. Acts like Maya Jane Coles, Dubfire, Solomun and The Chemical Brothers. They are instantly recognisable when you hear a track or set from them. I also love DJ’s like Chris Liebing who really embrace technology to take their sets to the next level and blur the line between DJ and live act.

Sankeys Manchester Closes to Concentrate in Ibiza

Posted by Gary on Thursday 11 April 2013

Sankeys IBZ has had two great years on the island. It’s not been an instant explosion of success and constant gossip, but the best nights never are. They secured some big names in the last couple of years and ive not heard anybody say anything bad about their nights. I even heard a rumour of reasonable priced drinks!! :)

Today, a statement has gone out on their Facebook page that they will be closing the doors on Sankeys MCR (Manchester) on the 6th May with a 12 hour party.

The reason? To concentrate on Ibiza! They have said that to be as successful in Ibiza as they have been in Manchester, they need to move the Manchester team to Ibiza for the summer. I personally think there is a little more to it than that, but they have not ruled out the possibility of reopening in the future.

Sankeys MCR is one of the last great clubs to successfully open every week in the UK, most of the so-called ‘Super Clubs’ stopped doing weekly parties in the UK may years ago.

Ive not caught up with anything else Sankeys are doing this year in Ibiza but i they are shutting the doors on the UK club and the genuine reason is to make the Ibiza night better, then this should be a great season this season for Sankeys IBZ.

Retro @ Sankeys Ibiza 2012

Posted by Gary on Tuesday 15 May 2012

One of my loves in life has to be Retro more specifically, Paul Taylor. I blame it entirely on spending time in the North East of England where Retro was an institution for so long. Over in Ibiza, Retro has had its highs. Circo 10 years ago, Retro was the workers party of choice, the retro tunes went down a storm and Retro was cemented.

Unfortunately, the pull of Retro has dropped some what over the last 5 years or so, i myself haven’t been to one for years now, but once in a while, i do go, and it reminds me why i loved it so much!

This summer, Retro don’t have a regular night, but they have confirmed two parties in Sankey’s Ibiza on the 2nd July and 18th September

If you have the chance, go and check it out, if you cant make the night, try your best to get to the pre party, Retro is one of the best pre parties around.

Ibiza Diary (Coming Next Week)

Posted by Paul on Sunday 10 July 2011

This is a quick blog pre next weeks diary entries. No doubt whatever we got up to over there next week will provide some insight into the island and of course our silly raver heads but I just wanted to outline what our battle plans were so if anyone has a special interest in a place they can tune in to see what the place is like from a true consumers point of view. No DJ favortism, music mag bias, snotty journalist write up, just pure 100% how it is gonna be for YOU or rather how it was for me and my merry band of trance warriors, techno kids and minimal yeads!!

We have made a commitment to each other to have it as large as humanly possible and I promise you all that I will bring describe it to you in as much delicious detail as I (legally) can!!

The definates are Circo Loco @ DC10, Be @ Space, Cream @ Amnesia, Zoo Project. I am of course allowing for a few nights of spontaneity to see where the island takes me. I will also try to check out Sankeys and feel that I have missed out on the Fiesta del Agua in the past so will try to write up what a night at that landmark party is like.

If your interested in any of these then check out my Ibiza diary next week…

Peace, Love and Techno

Full On Ferry @ Sankeys

Posted by Gary on Thursday 26 May 2011

Sankeys opens its doors for the first time in Ibiza tonight with Monza. At the moment, there isn’t much information about what nights will be in Sankeys, i said when i first heard about Sankeys opening that it would all depend on pulling in the Dj’s. Lots of the Dj’s that play at Sankeys in Manchester already have dates in Ibiza but today was some amazing news.

Ferry Corsten has written a blog post on Facebook revealing his new weekly night in Sankeys Ibiza! Ferry does have some nights in Cream this summer, however he will be hosting Tuesday nights with his Full On Ferry night.

On a personal note, i love Ferry Corsten, and im gutted his night doesn’t start till July. I really think this night will be amazing, ive never been to the club Sankeys have taken over, however i know how Sankeys like to work in smaller clubs and with Ferry on the decks its sure to be a hit.

My tune has changed a lot thinking about this new club in Ibiza and im sure if they get the numbers through the door Sankeys could be a little belter this summer!

Full On Ferry will run from the 12th July till the 13th September.
