Amnesia Closing Party – Video

You may have noticed that at some point during the night, everyone sits down on the dance floor (apart from the spannered guy that doesn’t know what’s going on!) and then on queue, usually by the dj, they jump up and down being very happy!

It seems to be happening every ware this season, some times promoted by the Dj (im thinking Ibiza Rocks here) which is usually pap because you have been asked to do it, but a lot of the time, completely random, its something most people join in on and you can’t argue that it looks really good!

However, although this is sweeping dance floors in Ibiza this season, it’s not the first time it has happened! Its been going on for years in DC10 with Magda, the best and probably the first video i saw of it was in 2007!

Anyway, the rest of the island has caught on, the people from DC10 5 years ago that started it of will probably be hating it now its caught on!!

The Ibiza ‘Sit Down’

We have made a commitment to each other to have it as large as humanly possible and I promise you all that I will bring describe it to you in as much delicious detail as I (legally) can!!

The definates are Circo Loco @ DC10, Be @ Space, Cream @ Amnesia, Zoo Project. I am of course allowing for a few nights of spontaneity to see where the island takes me. I will also try to check out Sankeys and feel that I have missed out on the Fiesta del Agua in the past so will try to write up what a night at that landmark party is like.

Amnesia Ibiza Anthems 1990-2011

Eddie is no stranger to Ibiza any more, Supported well by Judge Jules in the beginning Eddie has been playing Ibiza for many years and over that time, his playing style has evolved and matured.  When he first started out he played hard and looped a hell of a lot! He became a Dj i loved then didn’t really bother with too much, however, i paid a visit to see him last year at Creamfields and found myself really loving what he was playing.

Eddie is now playing a mix of tech house, trance and techno at the moment and from speaking to people i know the general theme is that Eddie has everyone loving him again.

This summer you will be hearing Eddie play at Cream on Thursdays as well as Judgement Sundays. On the 18th August, Eddie will be hosting his ED-IT performance from the terrace in Amnesia.

Eddie Halliwell Ibiza 2011

So they all get to smash it to the sounds of John O’Callaghan and I write to you from my appartment in Manchester, I may not be there in person but I am certainly there in spirit (thank god my girlfriend loves techno too). Daily texts between the lads are flowing with excitement for when we go and we are counting down the days, holiday clothes are being bought and an untold amount of sit ups are being painstakingly ploughed through! The rituals have started, podcasts downloaded to keep up on the summer bangers, calenders checked and re-checked to make sure we hit the clubs we want and catch the tunes we need,  the websites and rumour room scoured and verified to make sure we are with the cool and sexy, young and trendies! We WILL get the most out of our time!!

I really urge everyone who reads this blog and is making a pilgrimage this summer to do everything that is in your power to take one new person with you this year, I will personally buy a return flight for anyone who isnt 100% hooked after one night!

29 more sleeps…

Its been around 8 years since GodsKitchen threw a party in Ibiza and they went out with a bit of a whimper in my opinion, In the early 00′s  GodsKitchen was one of the strongest nights on the island. They threw their parties in Amnesia on Tuesdays and had residents such as Tiesto (before he was so well known), Picotto and Fergie in his hard trance days.

2001 is the year that sticks out for me as being the summer of GodsKitchen, They did everything right, they had the best laser system, the biggest names playing for them, they had everyone wanting to go, they even had the best designed artwork! Then i have no idea what happened, the year after they moved to Eden and booked people like Dave Pearce.

Now there are lots of conspiracy based stories that i heard about and they all involved clubbing politics (promoters making sure their top dog with help from club owners – naming no names ). The move to Eden signalled the end to a night that in the short time it was at Amnesia became Legendary to those who remember it.

Moving back into the now, there have been various tails that they are set to return in 2011 at Privilege, there is no way on earth Cream would allow GK to try to encroach on their turf again! The first story is Wednesdays which has since been dismissed and they are expected to do some one off nights through the summer, the source of this information supposedly coming from a Dj that has been told of the plans.

If GodsKitchen are in Ibiza in 2011 i wouldn’t know what to expect, im unsure who would headline and weather Privilege is the best venue for their events. Although i would love to see GK back in Ibiza i don’t think i could bring myself to go because last time i went in Ibiza was one of the best nights of my life and i know they wont be able to top that night for me.

GodsKitchen @ Privilege 2011

As a replacement Tonight looks set to be a good night bringing a different sound to Ibiza nightlife.

The main two headliners for the summer are Annie Mac and Eric Prydz (i recently blogged about these two in my missing Dj post). Each having a room to themselves Annie is bringing with her, her ‘Annie Mac Presents’ night which is a lineup chosen by her. Last year Annie pulled out the Warehouse Project after not having the final say on who played under her name and good on her. What this means is you can be sure all the DJ’s on these nights have been picked by Annie herself. She is bringing a more Dubstep and Grime kind of sound to the island which isn’t something ive really seen before on Ibiza but its definitely a sound that is gaining massive popularity and people always have good things to say about Annie’s nights.

Eric Prydz will also be playing regular through the season , however the guests playing with Eric have not been announced yet.

I’m sure this night is going to be a popular one, It’s good to see new names and hear new sounds in the clubs in Ibiza. It’s never going to take over from the traditional nights and sounds of Ibiza but its good to have a little more variety.

If you go to Tonight @ Amnesia you can expect to see the likes of  A-Track, Nero, Katy B, Benga, Crookers and Erol Alkan amongst others.

Tonight @ Amnesia

Over the last couple of years Eric Prydz has played a big role in the Cream line-ups, playing  mainly in the main room, it was a little surprising he is playing no role in this years line-up, especially considering he has his own arena this year at Creamfields.

The second missing Dj is Deadmau5, again, he held a residency last year on the terrace of Amnesia which was extremely successful, hosting the terrace on a Cream night is an extremely big deal, especially when you can pull in as many people as Deadmau5.

So why would this be? Well, they could just be having the summer off…. NOT! Ibiza is the proving ground for so many Dj’s, the only Dj’s that don’t play in Ibiza are those  who aren’t good enough and those who have earned their stripes and done their time in Ibiza.

I believe last year could give us a clue as to what has happened, In 2009 Annie Mac played Cream and was very successful, every night she played there was praise the next day and since then her label Annie Mac Presents has gone from strength to strength. In 2010, Annie appeared at Space for the Come Together night, although she wasn’t a resident it was still a chance for her to get her Annie Mac presents label on the island.

After last season Come Together promised to come back bigger and better in 2010, this could mean bigger named nights and a longer season.

Its my prediction that this is what will end up with Eric Prydz and Deadmau5. 2010 was the first year for Come Together so as with any new night it wasn’t a dead cert to be busy. It proved to be a hit with Monza holding a residency there as well as Meganite / Alchemy upping sticks from Privilege and moving into the clubbing superstore that is Come Together.

Eric Prydz is rumoured to have his own night this season but as of yet there has been no word. As well as the rumours, Eric has also launched his Pryda nights since last season, just like any Dj with a new night they want to push, it would make sense for him to use Come Together to be able to get that night out there, it’s certainly an amazing opportunity to test the water without committing to a club for the full summer.

Deadmau5 has not launched anything new since last summer but his tour has been a sell out and he is in more demand than ever, He may be taking the opportunity to be the main act of the night instead of playing second fiddle to the main room of Cream, again, this may be something Come Together may be offering.

Of course however, this is Ibiza we are talking about which means anything can truly happen, everything above is my own theory, non of it is confirmed.

Weather you agree with me or not or whether i am right or not, im almost 100% certain Deadmau5 and Eric Prydz will be playing in Ibiza in 2011.

The Missing Dj’s of 2011

I’ve had a look through the results and although i don’t agree with all them, there is one i do agree with

Amnesia has won the best global club for 2011! There were 4 clubs from Ibiza in the list but Amnesia has come out on top.
