The 3rd Butterfly Ball
Weds 8th October 2008..
Hotel Es Vive, Ibiza…
in aid of APNEEF(ibiza’s disabled children association)

With Ibiza Summer 2008 heading for its peak, its time once again to think Charity Fund Raising by way of the 3rd Annual Butterfly Ball.

This year, the organisers of the event (Jill Canney & Elena Sanchez) have, after careful consideration, chosen local Ibiza association for disabled children, APNEEF as the charity of choice, with all monies raised at The Butterfly Ball being donated to that particular worthy cause.

APNEEF attends nearly 100 local children with severe physical and mental disabilities and is in dire need of proper funding and support. So, lets help them, folks.

DC10 Re-Opening Review

Posted by Gary on Saturday 16 August 2008

it’s been a wild last week for both the media and dc-10 as a club itself. after having complied with their two-months closure, the next penalty for dc-10 and closure of the club was announced just a few days ago…

so this afternoon, at around 4:30pm, i was really asking myself if the bass is thundering out of the speakers in that house on the fields around the airport…many people on the island weren’t sure if dc-10 would be able to open or not. i was still busy, but when i finally made my way there some time after 6pm, i noticed that YES, there is something going on at dc-10!!! the club was open! and busy! went directly inside, on to the terrace…and aaaah…sunlight through the windows…rené dropping mad music…smiling faces all around…only at that point i realised how much i had missed this place during the last weeks! as you all know, it wasn’t the first time dc-10 was closed, so in a way it wasn’t new for me. but being back there was just GREAT! the terrace was already really busy while the inside bit was still quiet.

After Hours Raided

Posted by Gary on Friday 15 August 2008

A big thing was made earlier this year about after hours clubs not being aloud to operate and this has effected clubs like space and DC10 (if it was open).

However it seems that the after hours scene is still alive and partying! a few reports from people who have been to the island have said that now they are banned there is a lot more advertising for them, they are not in the main stream clubs they are still happening in small bars and villas around the island.

However the police are making an attempt to stop them. El Club in Ibiza town has for the last 2 weeks been operating as an after hours venue but this week it was raided at 10am, a few people were arrested and the owner was fined. In another story the La Troya after party was raided by police who brought along a TV crew, however after the police left the party continued further down the road!

So it sounds like the after hours are definitely there if you can get to them!

Circo Loco Will Open This Week

Posted by Gary on Thursday 14 August 2008

A mixmag blog post has an interview with the owner of Circo Loco who insists the party will go on! In the interview he says, go to the Circo Loco Myspace and you will read the truth, in the same blog post they also question Ibiza spotlight who mentioned about all these troubles as you have read on here. He says the party will go on, Now ive been a member of the spotlight forums for many many years and i dont remember a time they have published incorrect information.

After reading that i thought i would read their myspace to see what they had to say about it and guess what??? Ibiza Spotlight were correct so i dont understand how there integrity could be questioned, However their myspace has pretty much resigned to the fact that DC10 and Circo Loco @DC10 is coming to an end and the parties that will happen to the end of this season my very well be the last. They urge people to go and show their support in there final days by flying out to ibiza to party with them one last time.

Another blow For DC10

Posted by Gary on Monday 11 August 2008

1 week before the grand re opening of DC10 and the authorities have delt what could be seen as the final deadly blow for DC10. They have now been ordered to close for 12 months and pay a €300,000 fine. These new fines and closure order have been imposed because the club has repeatedly knowingly broken the law by having the parties in a venue with a legal capacity of only 68 people. DC10 have 1 month to challenge the decision and if they do then it is expected they will still open this weekend till the end of the season, however the signs are that these last few parties will be the last parties DC10 may ever have so if you get the chance, Cherish them!

All of this is a blow but shouldn’t really come as a surprise for readers of my blog. I reported back in January this year in a post called DC10 to close about the issues DC10 was going to face this coming year and it seems that one by one they have become true. The sad news is that the reasons they are being closed down are the same reasons it will not open back up as the DC10 everyone is familiar with. After 12 months are they going to have parties knowing they will exceed capacity? I doubt they will some how.

I have read a lot about people blaming the authorities and saying they are targeting the club yet at the end of the day DC10 have always known the situation and i believe they have always known what will one day happen. They have made the most of it and now i feel it has been brought to an end.

Cocoon Review By Nostrum

Posted by Gary on Saturday 9 August 2008

Nostrum made a really good review of the first sold out night on the island for 2008 which was Cocoon. Carl Cox made an appearance but didnt play and the club closed its doors because it was full!

it’s already a few days ago, but still, here’s a short review from last monday’s cocoon at amnesia…

we arrived at around 130am and the guestlist queue was impressive. ticket holders got in quite fast though. the line-up was sven väth and extrawelt (live) in the main room and loco dice plus marco carola on the terrace. as i had been almost only to the terrace when i went to cocoon this year, i thought we’d go to the main room this time for a change. sven was already playing, the main room was already very busy. at 2am, extrawelt did their one hour live act. they had their pc’s, synth’s and much more equipment in the middle of the main room on that podium which i thought was brilliant. do you remember their 2006 biggies “titelheld” and “soopertrack”? they played them both and more cool stuff, of course. at 3am, sven was back in the dj booth and had a famous visitor in the box aswell: carl cox. but it was only sven who played. generally, i am not the biggest fan of sven väth, but that night he really rocked the main room. by 3am, the main room was really full, but surprisingly it never got as bad as the terrace. when we shortly went over, we noticed how super-duper-packed the terrace was! i think the terrace at cocoon is the new main room in a way, it’s the busiest room and also both vip’s were VERY busy! friends who stayed on the terrace were raving about how good loco dice and marco carola were!

one advise for people going to cocoon this year: come EARLY. last monday they closed the guestlist at some point (some people waited for more than an hour anyway to get in through guestlist) and a bit later they also generally stopped people entering - it was the first sold-out event this summer! and now with august beginning, i think it will keep being like this for the next weeks. so don’t arrive only at 3am, come around 1am, find your spot on the dancefloor and enjoy…

re afterhours: there are still afterhours happening. no official cocoon-ones, but various smaller ones…sometimes with cocoon-people appearing or even playing, many though just in a private house/villa or in a small bar in town…

Circo Loco Re opening and closing

Posted by Gary on Friday 8 August 2008

DC10 is reopening on the 18th of August 2008. Yes thats 10 days time!! According to their Myspace profile they reopen and they then have only 3 parties befor they close on the 13 october. Unfortunately they have a big gap between the 25th of august and the 13 october when they have their closing party, i expect after loosing so much of the season they will deffinately be open inbetween.

There is also another party being hosted at DC10 called Pandemodium. i know at the moment they are present at the Zoo Project so they seem to be moving to DC10 with the first party on the 22nd which is 2 weeks today.

if i hear any more news then you guts will be the first to know

Azuli Announce Third Ibiza Beach Party

Posted by Gary on Monday 4 August 2008

Club Azuli are back on 6th August with the third in their summer series of secret beach parties. The parties have been the talk of the island, attracting crowds of chic and stylish, music loving, beautiful Ibiza party people. The third instalment of Beach Azuli will be in a new, stunning, secret beach location somewhere on the island, where guests can enjoy an all day BBQ with blissed out beats, building to some of the best in electronic edged house, all with a Balearic slant. Clubbers will dance as the sun goes down surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery Ibiza has to offer. As always, special guest DJs will be turning up to make this a party that those lucky enough to find will never forget.

Andy Cato from Groove Armada compared the Beach Azuli party he played at to the Space Terrace when he first came to the island many years ago. Azuli head honcho David Piccioni has created a very special vibe, made even more special by the fact that it’s not given to you on a plate. This is a party that you need to hear about on the grapevine and that requires effort to find; and as always, the greater the effort, the greater the reward.

Ibiza regulars and those in the know are flocking to the Azuli beach parties, recognising them as a rare opportunity to experience the true Ibiza vibe, surrounded by the magical natural beauty of the island. These are the parties that will be talked about for many years to come.

The only way to get to this party is to visit www.azuli.com/secretibiza where tickets may be purchased, however no information on the location will be released until the day before the party, when you will receive a text message with all the details. Next, start your mission to find the party and then revel in the fact that you made it when so many others will sadly miss out.

If you need proof that these parties do exist, go to www.azuli.com/azuli_tv.php where you can find footage of the best parties the White Isle has seen for a very long time…

The Whip and LA’s hardcore party purveyors Iglu & Hartly will be playing alongside the closing parties headliners Pendulum on the 9th september.

Pendulum are enjoying great success this year perfroming at plenty off festivals and they have a great remix of the prodigy which has been going down a storm!
